So, I pretty much made this same exact post last year: A few days before fall 2011, I decided to dye my hair dark. I have spent the past year keeping it that way, and I had finally come to enjoy my half-natural- half-blond-showing-through-from-before-ombre-esque hairstyle. Then I decided about a week ago I’ve had enough of it.
So at 3pm today, I am bringing back ma blonde highlights. Maybe this will be a new thing: ring in the fall with a new hairstyle. Next year: Chop it off and dye it red. Just kidding, don’t freak out.
I told my stylist I don’t want to go back to the beach-blondieness of before. For about a week I was dead-set on dying my whole head blonde as ever. Then I realized that probably wasn’t the best way. Like a new relationship, you don’t want to scare ‘em off with too much, too soon. So we settled on what she calls a high-lift. I’m pretty sure this is just Aveda’s fancy way of saying highlight, and making it sound different and fun. I know she explained in detail about the difference, but I wasn’t really listening very well. I was like,
“Uh-huh, oh yeah, that sounds awesome!”
::sips coffee, falls back into awkward silence:: So this time I will get the real story from her, and relate back to you lovely ladies in case you want to follow suit. Here is a pic of my pre-high-lift/light hair.
I will post back later with the new ‘do.
In other news, tomorrow is the beginning of my favorite season: FALL!!!! I love it! Cool air, hot drinks, sweaters, pretty colors, pumpkin everything, Halloween, Thanksgiving; I could go on forever. I decided that I love it so dang much I should probably set aside a proper celebration for it. So tomorrow my sister Shannen and I will be holding our Inaugural Fall Fun Festival. We are getting up early and heading over to The Walk in Atlantic City (lots of fun shops), grabbing a fall-themed beverage at Starbucks, shopping til we drop, and then coming home and bake something apple-y, and have a double feature of You’ve Got Mail and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Most of that really isn’t fall-themed- sorry to disappoint those who thought I might say that I was dressing up like a crunchy leaf and running up and down the street yelling about the weather. I just picked the most fun, girly, fun things I could think to do. I can’t wait. What’s your favorite season?? Do you do anything to celebrate?
Stay tuned for my hair update, because I know you are totally on the edge of your seat. Also: shamless plug: I have entered one of my original songs in a contest, and if I win I get to sing at Rocketown in Nashville in Novemeber. If you have a twitter, follow me @katiehav and retweet the one that begins, “My original song, Healed..” Or you can view the video on youtube here. The more views and retweets, the better my chances. Thank you all!
Smile, pretty girl.

UPDATE: a little tough to see from the pic, but here are the highlights! Very natural, but I love them! Also: high lift is Aveda’s product that uses less bleach on the hair. So you still get a bright color, it just isn’t as white or damaging.
